Did you know about 1 in every eight women in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime? Women of all ages including younger women are vulnerable to breast cancer though the degree of risk does increase with age. Women with different lifestyle habits and from all walks of life and nationalities develop breast cancer. Women with breast cancer can be fit or overweight, vegetarians or meat-eaters, regular exercisers or those not as diligent about exercising. Though a woman’s risk of breast cancer almost doubles if a close relative, such as a mother, sister or daughter, has had breast cancer only about 20%-30% of women diagnosed have a family history of breast cancer.
The EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women is dedicated to the fight against women’s cancers which includes breast, uterine, ovary, vulva and vaginal cancers, by raising money for research, support and finding a cure for all women’s cancers. More than 273,000 new cases of women’s cancers will be diagnosed this year in the U.S.
If you are among those 1 in 8 women to hear the words, “You have breast cancer,” you probably will experience a wide range of emotions, including shock, fear, stress, anger or numbness. You will learn an entire new vocabulary of medical terms. In addition to worrying about your test results, you are probably anticipating treatments and wondering where you will find support during this difficult time. If you are currently battling cancer, support groups can help the cancer patients and survivors lead healthy happy lives and provide family members and friends with breast cancer information and support.
Whether you are newly diagnosed with cancer, in treatment, recently completed treatment, or are a breast cancer survivor, the EIF Revlon Walk/Run for Women is here to increase awareness, education, research, and diagnostic treatment services in the fight against women’s cancers.
The EIF Revlon Run/Walk For Women salutes the many cancer survivors who join us in the fight against women’s cancers and raising cancer awareness. Our survivors inspire us to continue through their hope, courage and strength.
In proud support of the many cancer survivors who will be joining us on April 30th in New York and May 7th in Los Angeles, we invite all survivors to pick up a special Survivor Cap from the EIF Survivors Tent in Times Square or Central Park in New York or at the Survivor booth located in the Health Expo in Los Angeles.
As a support organization, the ultimate goal of the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women is to improve your quality of life and help take an active role in awareness and education of breast cancer and other women’s cancers as well as funding research and treatments. With your help we can fight women’s cancers and eradicate them so no other wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend has to endure cancer.
